The #1 Tip to Grow Your Business
Google reviews are important…but do you know how to get the MAXIMUM benefit from them? If not…READ ON!
Google Reviews Are Your Secret Weapon
You know that moment when a potential customer is about to hit “call” or “send inquiry,” but then they pause and check your Google reviews first? That decision-making moment happens hundreds of times a day for small and medium-sized businesses.
And if your reviews are weak—or worse, missing entirely—you’re losing business without even knowing it.
Here’s the truth: Google reviews aren’t just nice to have. They’re the modern-day word-of-mouth, and they directly impact whether new customers choose you or your competitor.
Why Google Reviews Matter More Than You Think
Your ideal customers are already on Google. They’re researching you, comparing you to competitors, and reading what others say about their experience.
A strong Google review profile does three powerful things:
- It builds trust. When a potential client sees you have dozens of five-star reviews with specific, authentic details about their experience, your credibility skyrockets. Real customers vouching for you is more powerful than anything you say about yourself.
- It boosts your visibility. Google’s algorithm favors businesses with consistent, recent reviews. More reviews = higher rankings in local search. That means more people finding you in the first place.
- It gives you social proof that converts. Studies show that businesses with strong review profiles convert curious visitors into paying customers at significantly higher rates. People want to work with businesses that others rave about.
The problem? Most small and medium-sized business owners don’t have a system for asking for reviews. So even their happiest customers never leave one.
The Simple System for Capturing More Google Reviews
Here’s what I recommend—and it’s simpler than you might think:
Step 1: Ask at the Right Moment- The best time to ask for a review is right after a great experience, when your customer is happiest. If you provide a service, ask before they leave. If you’re selling a product, send a follow-up email 2-3 days later. The key is: ask while the positive feeling is still fresh.
Step 2: Make It Easy- Don’t just say, “Leave us a Google review.” Instead, send them a link to your Google Business profile review page. You can find this link by going to your Google Business profile, clicking “Customers” and then “Reviews.” Copy that link and put it everywhere—in follow-up emails, text messages, on your receipts, even in your email signature.
Step 3: Give Them a Nudge- Your ask should feel like a friendly favor, not a demand. Something like: “We’d love to hear about your experience! If you had a great time working with us, would you mind sharing that on Google? It really allows us to help more people—and only takes 30 seconds.”
Step 4: Make It Personal- If you have a team, personalize the ask. “Hi Sarah—thanks so much for trusting us with your project. If you’d be willing to share your experience on Google, it would mean the world to us and help other business owners like you find us. [Your Google review link here]” Personalization gets higher response rates than generic requests.
What to Do With Your Reviews Once You Get Them
Collecting reviews is just the first step. Smart businesses leverage those reviews strategically:
Showcase them on your website. Highlight your best reviews on your home page.
Share them on social media. Post great reviews with a quick thank-you.
Use in sales presentations. Share with a prospect to help close the sale!
Study the language. Pay attention to what specific results customers mention or what problems you solved. Use those exact phrases in your marketing.
