Leverage Your Success to Open More Doors

Success isn’t the finish line… it’s the launchpad.

Every win is fuel for your next opportunity. The key? Don’t stop or coast. Instead, leverage what you’ve already done to create momentum, build new relationships, and unlock new doors.

People love working with successful people. When you’ve done something impactful, it becomes your best referral. Your wins open doors—but only if you knock. I’m reminded of Revelation 3:7 where it says God opens doors no one can shut. But what if your past accomplishments provide the keys enabling you to knock with confidence?

One of my favorite historical quotes comes from Hannibal Barca, the Carthaginian general. When told it was impossible to cross the Alps with elephants, he famously said, “We will either find a way or make one.” And he did—leading an army of 30,000 troops, 15,000 horses, and 37 war elephants over the Alps in 218 B.C. to shock the Roman Empire. That’s the power of determined leverage. He used his past successes to inspire his troops to do the unthinkable …something the Romans never expected.

My Story

I always dreamed of being a professional writer. Years ago, I leveraged a relationship with an old advertising rep-turned-publisher. While my magazine pitch didn’t work, he asked me to write for his new magazine instead. That led to a second. Then to writing the real estate section of the Sunday paper. I turned that work into a book, a portfolio piece that opened even more doors.

Fast-forward to today. I have a regular column, Better Business Protocol, in EDGE Magazine—and this month I’m speaking at the Future Proof Author Conference in Atlanta on—you guessed it—the power of leverage. (BTW, if you need a speaker for  a business or ministry event, I’d love to energize your audience.)

Here are 4 Keys to Leverage Your Success:

  1. Broadcast Your Wins
Don’t stay silent. Share victories on LinkedIn, in meetings, or blogs to build credibility.
  2. Use Testimonials
Let others speak for you. I showcase reviews at https://www.reenwaterman.com. Great testimonials are gold—and I can show you how to get them.
  3. Thank and Ask
After a win with a client, thank them—and then ask,Who else do you know who could benefit from what I offer?” That’s the perfect time to get a referral.
  4. Keep Evolving Your Pitch
Update your bio, elevator pitch, and services regularly. Growth opens new doors—so make sure people know what you now bring to the table.

Leverage means using something to its maximum value.

Ask yourself this key question, “What success can you leverage today?”
