Nothing is more helpful to consumers than to read an article written by you that displays your knowledge and skills. While an advertisement is great, when a consumer reads an article you wrote that is published locally, you become a trusted local provider people will seek out.
This is easy to do. Pick out several local publications that you read and see what kinds of local stories they publish. Look at the average word count and create several story ideas that are the same length. Contact the publisher or editor and “pitch” a story you’d like to write. Then write the story, submit it, and get a copy of it to use as a published clip on your website.
Another way to get into the public eye is to find a great local magazine or newspaper that appeals to the audience you’d like to target. Then you can pay for an advertorial (which is an ad written by you or the publication) that ends with your contact information.
